Sailing the Caribbean & Mexico
In July 2018, after a failed attempt the year before (hurricane Irma destroyed the boat we were going to buy), we became boat owners. After many years of dreaming about it, we were finally able to purchase a sailing catamaran – Leopard 38 – in the inland nation of Grenada, in the Caribbean.
Our travel dreams went into a new level with so many destinations available to us now that weren’t before. The big goal was French Polynesia and the South Pacific, but we needed to build our skills, experience, knowledge and outfit the boat for that adventure.
We decided to spend over a year in the Caribbean to gain that experience and explore some of the best cruising grounds in the world: the Bahamas. We then worked our way to Panama and prepared everything for our 2 years in the South Pacific.
Then Covid came, and our plans went out of the window. We decided to take Maui to Mexico where we spent 2 seasons in the Sea of Cortez. By the end of 2021 the South Pacific islands wasn’t open yet, so we made the difficult decision to leave the boat dream for later in life and go motorcycling in Africa instead.
See the map below with our route and some pins with notes and pictures of the places we visited along the way.
